Hello, author here. I agree the title might be a bit controversial but in my opinion, it should reflect the fact that hackers should be doing something beyond building software. An impact a hacker has when doing the other things discussed in the article is way-way bigger.

So maybe, "Hackers don't just write software - they solve problems".

@michokest yes, that happens too. For me the biggest issue was thinking that we were doing great at some keywords with SEO and it turned out it was just Google Images. Certainly, people coming through Google Images doesn't convert at all.

After my "hack" at least we know :)

alpb I use iTerm2, it just uses the system sound as I explained. Make sure you didn't enable "Silence bell" under iTerm2 prefs, Profiles, Terminal (the tab), Notifications.

Haha, awesome! We're hooking it up with our CI to have a WAT when a build fails.

Maybe showing the hour for an entire month is too much information. I don't think I would care if a comment posted 2 weeks ago was earlier or later. Some times it's useful to see the "speed" of a conversation, but maybe that should be hidden until a thread is expanded and then more detail can be shown without blowing the interface.

Maybe https://simple.com/ is the best chance to start pushing the banks to improve their online interfaces.

I think this is a pretty cool tool, for both development/staging and also for production in a very restricted way. Every site has some kind of admin panel. I see this like a phpMyAdmin on asteroids for rack apps.

Definitely interesting.

I see this like a phpMyAdmin on asteroids for rack apps.

Dear christ, please do not ever put this near production.

phpMyAdmin on asteroids sounds about right. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cretaceous%E2%80%93Tertiary_ext...

Except for extreme circumstances (emergency debugging) I wouldn't let this thing near production. For development, it's super-handy, though.

Well we thought IRC doesn't offer logs by default and it's fine, we offer them for a week. You can get unlimited logs with the $15/mo plan, so if you want to use it for business, you can.
