I'm playing https://www.twilightwars.com it's a turn based game. You get a notification once it's your turn. If you don't click on the notification but just open the browser, the browser thinks you don't want the notifications and stops them. There is no way of whitelisting the notifications.
The only thing I can't get rid of is YouTube. I have my own PeerTube instance and subscribe to some chanels there, but I basically almost never watch videos on PeerTube. I only watch private family videos if someone from the family uploads one, but all the normal watching happens on (with SmartTube) on the TV or (with NewPipe) on the smartphone from YouTube.
Because I always only see reviews of the Tuxedo laptops where the reviewer only has been using it for a couple of hours and I have experience from about 6 years ago when i bought the InfinityBook from Tuxedo back then and used it for only one year until I had to replace it.
When mine arrived everything was looking good and working without problems. After one month or so the Bluetooth stopped working. I even installed windows on it to check that it's really not a software bug and indeed even with windows the bluetooth didn't work. I sent the laptop in and it took about 3 weeks for it to be fixed and sent back to me.
They replaced the BT chip and it was working again. But about one month later both the BT stopped working again and the microphone if I remember correctly, there was always a static sound on all recordings (even when I installed Windows to test). I again sent it in and again after 3 weeks it came back fixed.
Then the plastic bezel around the screen started coming off so I just lived with it because I didn't want to send it back again, but I couldn't fix it myself. Then where the palms rest I started getting discoloring, couldn't remove it either.
Also the palm rests started getting yellow after some months, it looked very weird as if the laptop was dirty.
I don't remember what the trigger was, but after one year I stopped using this laptop for which I spent about 1000 EUR and bought a used ThinkPad instead.
And I'm not the only one, a friend of mine who introduced me to Tuxedo had similar problems and also had to send in his InfinityBook several times so they would fix it.
It was like 6 or 7 years ago, so hopefully they were able to fix some of the shortcomings.
Life lesson: don't buy from boutique HW manufacturers that don't (yet) have a solid reputation on warranty and service centers in your area. All they do is rebadge a Chinese OEM design and sell you that with a Linux/FOSS sticker.
Similar experience, ironically the experiment of going from thinkpad to a “linux tailored laptop” aka tuxedo infinitybook triggered the final decision of getting a macbook after spending months exasperated trying to make the tuxedo work as expected.
Normally the instrument cluster runs a different software stack, but can overlay some graphics from the infotainment in certain areas to show navigation or what music is playing right now.
- I don't store the date in the URL
- I redirect you to https automatically, but perhaps I should rethink that
- My Photos page lazy loads pictures, because it shows over 1000 thumbnails and it took very long to open it on the mobile phone
- Some of my posts link to YouTube videos and embed that video, so this is what comes from a different origin
Yeah, still pretty OK I think.
