I expected way more than a personal opinion coated in some moralization.

Very refreshing blog post in our era of attention craving.

The fight for mitigating climate change has a long way to go. I understand the funnily absurd side of the story, but the obvious flip side hurts my eyes for not being mentioned: it's trivializing pollution to an extreme.

If this was the problem maybe, but how do we know it's going to be any better if they were a bank? Also, can Binance actually be a bank and have so shady accounting at the same time? Hardly... That might be why the swift partner ceases collaboration in the first place.

Judging by the current difficulties of building a quantum computer with bigger number of qbits, I'd assume scaling linearly isn't trivial at all. So increasing key size should definitely increase security, if not exponentially, at least buying a lot of time?

I guess learning to live together in a society and putting yourself at risk of other's judgement is more stressful than the comfort of your house where everything you need is provided for by hardworking parents... But that's a very necessary step towards growing up.

Society is nothing like school though. Who has 30 friends all the same age that you spend most of your life with and that you can't change for the next 5-8-11 years?

School is organized the way it is, because we need workers and soldiers. Not because we want kids to behave better or to "grow up". People "grew up" before we had schools.

Schools were made to get people used to working fixed hours and teach them the minimal skills required to operate the mills [1]. It's really time to rethink schools (and work).

From the study, in-person schooling increases teen suicides by 12-18%. Is this fatality rate acceptable on the basis that it's "very necessary" to socialize the remaining children in this way? Is there evidence that kids in online classes wouldn't have "grown up"?

I find this line of thinking abhorrent. If it will reduce suicides by 15%, in-person schooling should be stopped outright until someone fixes what's wrong with it.

I understand this can be shocking, but to me excessive precautions (such as no in-person school to avoid suicides), just lead to another ripple effect that is extremely detrimental to us as a society. The problem needs to be addressed for sure, but it doesn't mean home schooling is superior to in person.

How surprising...

Very interesting article, but as these games are fiction, they do not necessarily need to be accurate, otherwise there are many more utter inaccuracies to be corrected, not to mention the fact that a young girl can freely hang around with her little brother in the 1300s while having her haircut always perfect. Let games be and enjoy the wonderful pictures.

Nobody said that's the miracle solution to bring public transportation for all, that's a key step to it though. Public transports in California cities need to be built too!

Keeping on doubling down for cars/flights will surely never bring any sustainable and environmental solution.

While I agree with the sentiment, I think some lawmakers in CA think they can get public transportation to rival cities like New York. It will never happen in places like LA/SD unfortunately. There is far too much sprawl. Most ppl in NYC can step off a subway and walk a couple blocks and be at there destination. In SD, where I live, it doesnt seem financially possible.

Recently SANDAG approved a $160 billion dollar Transit Plan. That would equate to $110k per resident if we paid out of pocket; hopefully they can do some financial voodoo so that's not the case.

A few weeks ago SANDAG officials were forced to withdrawal the most controversial part of their plan, a mileage tax that would tax San Diegans for every mile they drive (obviously very unpopular among residents). But, this tax was the main source of funding for the $163B Regional Transportation Plan, so they are forced to find a new funding mechanism. I'm curious what they will come up with.

For a technology that has the promise of clean energy for humanity, I am shocked it's receiving that small amount of funding, while we have been distributing literally trillions globally during the pandemic...
