The Amazon website is just pure and utter garbage. I seriously don't know why anyone can buy anything there. They would have to sell everything at least at halve the price for me even considering using them instead of Digitec. Amazon has little traction because Switzerland is small so they don't care, not as price sensitive as others and hence people don't like to torment themselves just to save a few bucks.
Come to the US. It's beyond absurd. Gray hair is considered a sign of a slow, old worker no one wants to hire. Only youth need apply, in spite of experience and wisdom, which counts for nothing.
DEI (Diversity Equity Inclusion) extends primarily to (minority) ethnicities, women and nonbinary, religions, and sexual orientations. Age is definitely not a DEI KPI target.
I'm not seeing this right now. I'm almost 42, just laid off, should have three offers this week after only three weeks of looking. I have lots of white hair...I think it's all in the presentation and expectations.
I can tell you as someone in that age bracket I have never had more opportunities and a higher paying salary at any other point in my life than right now, without a doubt. Even in the current economic climate I had 3 interviews this week and I'm barely even looking.
Never undertake a degree without a purpose, e.g., a PhD, unless there's an net positive (amortized) lifetime economic incentive to do so, otherwise it may be a waste of time and money.
It depends on the gray hair count and chin sagging. Fixable with dye, plastic surgery, and other forms of creative, strategic deception. :)
I've been a coder in Switzerland and now I run a tech recruitment agency: https://coderfit.com - I focus solely on Zurich and surrounding regions.
1. Engineers are similarly in demand as everywhere in Europe
2. I'd say the "cost of living" to "after tax salaries" ratio is unbeatably good
3. 100% remote work: not that popular; why would I pay you 130k CHF remote when I can get someone in Ukraine for $50k?
I had cases where firms wanted a Swiss (German speaking) person and they paid 140k CHF for fully remote but this was an exception.
Ping me for any further questions: iwan@coderfit.com or better just cold call me: +41 77 986 9000 (I am on any messenger app like Signal, Whatsapp etc.)
Contractor working from Ukraine could bill less because of low taxes for contract work (5%) and much lower CoL compared to Switzerland. But yeah, you are not going to hire anyone remotely competent for $50k in 2022.
You would likely be surprised. There is a ton of strong software talent in the Ukraine and not quite as much demand as they’d probably like, with predictable outcomes in terms of the balance of market forces.

In every culture it's different. In Switzerland, three stints of less than two years at companies is already a "Nogo".
In your situation, I would throughly ask why the stints were so short; maybe there are good reasons like the companies went bankrupt without any fault of the applicant, or maybe there is another specific reason that makes it more likely that they stick around with you, e.g., if you use a tech stack they love.

Amazon has little traction in Switzerland still.
Swiss people like to support local businesses, hurray!
