I've started to encouter websites that just don't even render in FF.

Major ones? I use FF pretty much exclusively and haven't hit one yet.

Same here. Though the Google properties are sloooooow in Firefox - if this is not abuse of power then I don't know what is.

I'm trying Servo builds. Oof. Most of the web, even my own very thin no BS pages are not loading perfect. But! Servo is improving. Maybe my Rust skills can improve so I could even contribute.

Just to be clear, this is not Firefox though.

Yep, it's not.

> Servo is improving

I thought it's unmaintained since the recent Mozilla layoffs?

Isn't that Servo being incomplete, not web developers doing something wrong?

I'm fairly sure there have been multiple stories about smart speakers sending things they hear without the keywords.

Could you please stop creating accounts for every few comments you post? We ban accounts that do that. This is in the site guidelines: https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html.

You needn't use your real name, of course, but for HN to be a community, users need some identity for other users to relate to. Otherwise we may as well have no usernames and no community, and that would be a different kind of forum. https://hn.algolia.com/?sort=byDate&dateRange=all&type=comme...

Only if they have filed a police report...

Okay, not stolen, but attacked with malware.

Those of us that support digital rights vote with our wallets. I would like to read ebooks. I don't have a source to BUY ebooks that I want. So I don't read them.

Cleaning data is a major part of data engineering there are plenty of professionals capable of helping with this task.

Yeah we should give up on controlling polio, measles etc as well. After all polio only kills 0.5% of cases as well. </sarcasm>

Sadly it takes about 24 to get tested and 24 hours for the lab result. That gives very little time to trace contacts before they start entering the asymptomatic-but-infectious-to-others stage. A one day delay is a problem.

HN is a very strictly policed safe space.

HN is heavily moderated with strict posting rules, as far as "safe space"... Eh as long as you maintain a level of respectful discourse I never found that you can't comment on social or political issues due to fear of Dang or any other mod (I'm not sure how many are there) interfering in the discussion.

The community itself is another issue but even that isn't as clear cut as it seems if you look at any of the more political topics that are being posted.

In general HN isn't the place you go to discuss politics, social issues or current events some posts are allowed when it's in the public's interest or they are relevant to the wider tech industry but that's about it.

I always turn on "Show Dead" and on controversial topics, go to the bottom first.

This thread (along with all COVID threads) are weighted to sink very quickly. So you won't see them often, but when you do, there's a treasure of diversity of information and viewpoints. The best threads are the ones that start with a greyed out comment.

Whilst I've worked with older PHP which was indeed awful. The modern stuff is quite OK. PHP has drifted into a decent design recently. I hope that any future language designer will take PHP as a case study of incremental improvement.

He also missed PHP...

Visual Basic, Swift, and even Scratch also rank higher on usage lists than some of those that are on the chart. Chapel is likely to be more influential. The "limited to languages being taught or used" excuse is super thin.
