I found a 5W CNC laser on sale for a little over $100. It's really fun and useful to cut things out of 2mm wood. Like the sibling says, having the metal cutting version of this at home would be amazing. I have access to one at a shop in the local university that can cut 4-5mm metal - thick enough for a lot of applications.

I think these labels definitely apply, if you think about it as a spectrum. Maybe the author's state wasn't pathological in either case but he definitely went from low energy to high energy.

I notice these shifts in myself and others; deciding to change it is the only way to get yourself out of a rut in my experience. When I do feel a little too "amped up" I use that energy and just make sure to avoid big decisions.

I guess the problem with bean counters is they don't know how to count our beans. The low performers look exactly the same as the high performers to them. So they make foolish decisions.

Have you met Americans? We are addicted to comfort. You will certainly get cleaner using a bidet but a jet a cold water spraying your rear end seems like it would be quite uncomfortable. Caveat, like most Americans I have not tried it.

It's really not that uncomfortable at all. Buy one on Amazon and try it, they're 20 bucks and take 5 minutes to install with no tools. That's less than one package of Costco toilet paper these days.

So far as I know, I've been an American for the ~50 decades I've been on this planet, and I'd say ~85% of the people I interact with on a day to day basis were born in America. I've observed that it is a common American trait to form strongly held views about things where one has no experience, and to defend those views fiercely. The Dude said it best.

People are saying that pump and dump schemes are unethical even if they're not always illegal. I would assert that investing for short-term gain is always unethical and the only way the stock market really benefits retail investors is when people invest and hold for long-term gains.

You're partly correct - people are getting more desparate and hopeless because their prospects are grim, and nihilistic because they feel their lives have no meaning. That's a problem and crime will continue to get worse as these feelings pervade American society.

But also, we need to arrest and prosecute criminals, because not doing so encourages crime. It accelerates the downward spiral.

Growth at the expense of quality. At the expense of customer Goodwill. At the expense of employee happiness. I'm a full-blooded capitalist but our economy's addiction to growth will, I think, be our downfall.

Seems to be a common tactic from a certain faction currently in power in the United States.

Not just a US phenomenon - it's gone global

Agree, working in an enterprise where you need to integrate with many existing systems, conform to guidance etc is a different beast than startup code written by a single team. If you haven't worked in an enterprise it's difficult to understand why things take so long.

Thank you for this accurate analogy. Similar to what if the post office delivered all your mail for free but they also opened it and read it in order to send you advertising.
