Apologies if this is a repost, didn't see one after search

Edit: I haven't read much into the btc white paper or code but, as a layman I believe Dimon's comments may be a fundamental misunderstanding of how btc's blockchain and "decentralized" nature works

i wonder what implications this has on mating? will she find a mate? Presumably the male would need to dominate her in order to procreate, that does not appear to be the case, currently.

Will she attempt to assume the male role in the mating process?

Lots of questions here around this issue.

It would also be interesting to see if the mating strategies and behaviors of the males change too.

Let's hope they are thoroughly monitored and studied.

Bench pressing macaques on instagram soon.

this sounds super interesting, is there a video or upload somewhere that i can watch this being performed in real time?

I very briefly show some of the interactivity of Ruby+Pry here: https://youtu.be/Gy7l_u5G928?t=805 (the overall code segment starts at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gy7l_u5G928&t=626s)

I'd be happy to hear about better demonstrations, and there's also Pry's website (https://pry.github.io/) where they link to some screencasts.

Very interesting that this was posted as I literally JUST watched an even MORE interesting youtube upload about this very bit of code just last weekend.

Here's the very fun video if anyone wants to take a look:

anedcotally, i've known this to be true about myself for years. my typed notes, while MUCH faster, are rarely as well memorized (on first pass) as my hand written notes.

what is meant here by "tabs" like records/logs?

They might mean that they approve users for it more easily and quickly than other brokerages. Logs are definitely kept (and in more locations than just RH).

"With Firefox succumbing this week..."

Firefox succumbed to what? Genuinely curious, i had not heard this.

There were a large number of layoffs at Mozilla, see https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24120336 .

And strategic re-orientation as I understood it.

Same way you strategically deprive someone from food and they reorient to a coffin user.

Explanation: Google undermined FireFox, both through ads, then through a series of incompatibilities.

And they did the same to Edge, which is using Chromium.

Given the caliber of the talent that was let go, this re-orientation sounds more like a lobotomy.

That's exactly what any CEO or "Downsizing Consultant" would say. That may be an OK situation for a corporate company, but for a non-profit foundation like Mozilla, its unhealthy and rings some disaster bells.

Too many overpaid people who had little interest in building a web browser.

does anyone know how we can search the data to find info about our (more than likely) entries in this database? or did they simply find it but not release the info?

Not the aggregate data set, but one of the two data sources (People Data Labs) offers free access for under 1,000 searches per month.

are you sure? how did you come to that conclusion. thanks for the info though, very glad to hear it.

Yes, there are dozens of these data enrichment companies. They scrape public sites and use browser extensions, SaaS tools, inbox addons, etc. They mix it together into profiles, and pretty much have the same dataset by now.

Clearbit is one of them and even a YC company.

Yep! And as someone who has worked with these data sets and worked on the scraping tools on services like LinkedIn, a lot of the data is outdated, incorrect, or mixing together different entities with the same name into one person or splitting the same person into separate entities incorrectly.

Look at the personal record that was in the article. It looks like aggregated public information. And look at what the companies referenced in the DB do.

It's possible there's someone selling them so not-quite-public info, too, but it's probably more like phone numbers and less like private messaged on Facebook or Linkedin.

The title reads like data from 1.2B profiles was leaked by Facebook and Linkedin, but this looks like scraping public profiles from them.

I mean, this is literally just a leak of data that People Data Labs is selling to anyone who signs up to their service. The 'leak' is just bypassing their payment requirements, so by definition all the data leaked is available for purchase.

Anyone know if the dev lurks here? I'm wondering if there's a way to fork his code or add Kroger functionality to it. If im not mistaken Kroger is a safeway acquisition that is a popular grocer in the south/southwest of the USA. this would be very helpful for those of us without safeways.

Kroger is the second largest supermarket in the US (after Walmart) that has many subsidiaries grocery chains that they have acquired in its 100+ years of existence. Pretty much Kroger bought up other "family" grocery chains and then keeps those chains local names such as Dillons, Frys, King Soopers, City Market, Gerbes, Kwik Mart, etc.

Safeway by contrast is part of the Albertson and Albertsons and its Subsidiaries is the 3rd largest Supermarket chain.

Kroger is separate company unrelated to Safeway.
