Excel at what you do to get higher pay, so that you can donate more to NGOs and non-profits that solve the important problems.

I am also a foreigner living in HK. I am with you on this one. HK was and continues to be awesome.

2 is amazing! How do you pick the news and create the summaries? Is it automated?

Healthy and delicious mass market food. At least in the US currently it's either healthy or delicious, while in Asia and Europe it can be both.

We do, but the problem is cost. It’s one of those “of these three attributes, pick two” between healthy, delicious, and cheap.

Add a 4th item: long shelf life

Healthy, delicious and cheap exists (at home at least). But it is very labour intensive and it will go bad in a couple of days.

I think that's the difference between EU and US. After living in both, in the EU, we shop nearly every day, while in the US it's ~ every weekish or longer.

I guess it's relevant.

Here is a great set of videos from "Low Level Javascript" channel explaining how to write parser combinators from scratch. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oQLRhw5Ah0&list=PLP29wDx6Qm...

Seems like you might have ADD or depression. Talk to your doctor about that. Proper medication might be the solution.

I've already talked about this to my doctor, and I am already taking anti-anxiety meds. As I mentioned before in my post, I am already seeing both a psychiatrist and a psychologist. I also asked them if I had ADHD, and they told me that I did not.

800-1000 characters is not enough. Should be about 2500-3000 characters to be comfortable with reading news and random articles online. I am at this level now, but can't handle novels yet. Need to learn much more vocab for that.

I am a software dev in Bytedance (company that created Tiktok) in Shenzhen. In general I like it here. The company is listening to feedback, coworkers are very friendly, and the work is challenging with good pay, I am definitely learning a lot here. Having said that, the workload is quite heavy - we have to work every other Sunday (Saturdays always off). If you are interested in a referral drop me an email at georgy [at] bytedance(dot)com. We have devs in the US as well.

What’s compensation like? Competitive with US companies? Equity awards?

You can update your current location to Shenzhen in LinkedIn. I regularly get messages from local HRs there. Btw, I work in Bytedance (company that created Tiktok) in Shenzhen, if you are interested drop me an email at georgy [at] bytedance(dot)com
