"The technical term for such taxation is regressive taxation" - Seligman 1894 https://www.jstor.org/stable/pdf/2485696.pdf

I second the recommendation above. You shouldn't be paying UI or workers comp AFAIK, but yes to B&O tax and probably licensing fees both to Washington and Seattle. I'd recommend having a good contract in place.

Thanks!

I'm certain that both sides will want a clear contract in place before we get going. Any recommendations for boilerplate I should consult?

When I was getting started I think I adapted one from Nolo, and that was fine for my needs. You could ask them (the client) to supply one and adjust it as you like.

Great -- thanks!

I anticipate getting one from the client, but wanted to see what boilerplate looked like, too.

As mentioned there: be sure you understand everything in whatever contract you sign, and consult with a lawyer if you're unsure of anything.

From that article:

> "A first limitation is that our analyses were constrained by the use of cross-sectional data, which precludes definitive assessment of directionality of associations. For example, it could be that cardiovascular disease (or associated treatments) may also drive sleep fragmentation in addition to, or rather than, the other way around."

I also noticed that. They do say

> “Indeed, these associational results in humans mirror recent data in which experimentally manipulated sleep disruption in mice led to higher levels of circulating inflammation that caused atherosclerotic lesions in the rodents,” added Vallat.

...which sounds like the real research.

Neat idea. I didn't know it was taboo to be open to new offers, I assumed everyone was open to new offers. Feedback: what's the $ figure? If I were listed here I doubt I'd want to have a dollar amount by my name. As an employer, I might want to click one of the tags to see all people with that tag.

I am working on the skills tag such that anyone can filter based on that single tag. I was 50/50 on the $ amount but given that it works as a filter for recruiters I left it there. This also serves another purpose of sort of anonymously letting other people know what a rate for certain role is in the market which will help them better negotiate with potential employers.

I would definitely stop working immediately and start lining up other work. If you can't get them to pay out what they already owe you, get in touch with whatever government agency in the UK handles employee pay issues.

Yes. What would he do? No idea. That's why I miss him.

Does Sococo do something like this? https://www.sococo.com/why-sococo/

So one of the remote contracts I worked used this tool, when I first saw and used it, I thought it was the dumbest idea ever. After using it for a while, I think it is one of the most brilliant remote collaboration tools out there. My only gripe was when someone leave your room, the app should notify you after a short period of time, that you have left your mic on. I did not like the idea of it being easy to leave a hot mic on.

Very cool! Wasn't familiar with them before. Thanks for the link! Same general space but I'm thinking about it from a social angle more than a work angle... might be the same problem and might not need separate tools. We'll see!
