Great article. My father was a software engineer at DEC in the mid-80s through the 90s and we often had DEC equipment at home. I grew up playing FLIGHT on a MicroVAX, learning BASIC programming on a Rainbow, and creating crazy answering machine greetings on a DECtalk.

I posted a "Who's Hiring" post as an employee seeking a referral bonus. I got a few leads from that and ultimately referred two of them, one of whom we hired and is still working with us (and me) nearly three years later.

Think of it as the same as the internal resistance of a conductor. Some of the photons are effectively absorbed by the fiber and turned into heat.

Thanks! I am embarrassingly so much a 'software' kind of person that this didn't occur to me, but I get the idea a bit better now.

You mean besides the constant vibration and acceleration of pistons changing direction multiple times each second?

Totally agree. I do a lot of interviews for my employer and no one cares about your GPA or really even your degree once you have some work experience.

I've been working in IT and software development since I left high school; it was never a barrier that I went to school to be an aircraft mechanic and don't have a tech-related degree.

Their banks can receive wire transfers just like any other bank.

It's not a bank issue. The retail F&I staff at most mainstream dealerships aren't accustomed to dealing with wire transfers and literally don't know what buttons to push. You can probably get it done eventually but it will involve some delays and complaints.

It goes both ways. Emigration _from_ the US to another western country is also incredibly difficult.
