The first half of the sentence you quoted is "even if you do everything right". What is the point of selectively quoting like that and then responding to something you know they didn't mean?

With respect, the first half of the sentence sounds more like waffling than a clear warning to your peers. I bond with other engineers over how badly the industry as a whole handles the scientific method. Too many of us can’t test a thesis to the satisfaction of others. Hunches, speculation, and confidently incorrect. Every goddamn day.

That’s a lot more than 1/10, and he’s talking mostly to future scientists, not developers.

The way I read his post is that categorizing and differentiating is fundamentally not possible, because sensory input cannot be trusted, period. This makes sense to me because part of what can drive you mad is the constant questioning, so one way to short-circuit this is to simply not play the game.

Yes, that is it. But sometimes I can get clues to differentiate. Another example. The water coming out of my bathtub looked really really blue. So blue that I called the water company. The woman came out and had that look on her face and just said, your water looks fine. I have learned that the look is a clue for me to not trust myself and let go and trust other people. It is sort of like being blind having to trust people to tell you the right way to go.

That kitchen metaphor is perfect, actually. I am 100% going to use that the next time I have to explain this concept.

It can go wrong too, though. Like if the other party focuses too much on "human uses dirty pan" and interprets it as "dev uses bad IDE" because both pan and IDE are tools humans use, missing the point.

The metaphor was kinda improvised so I'm sure it has other bad parts. The way I thought about it was with the kitchen being the service or codebase, and the utensils being utils/functions/modules/etc. Nothing more. So I bet there's more ways this metaphor can break.

Not true, I just disagree with you. The events in Germany are just the most recent example of my position (and that of the winning candidate and voters in the most recent US election) on opposing immigration and supporting remigration and deportation being the correct and moral position, as opposed to the left wing position of mass immigration and open borders in western countries being immoral.

Escape hatch feels like the lambda the author talks about. Ejecting is abandoning the generator and owning the code from that point on completely.

Thanks for posting this. I had seen beartype several years ago but I don't believe it had the whole-module registration feature yet. I'm looking forward to trying both of the libraries since the ergonomics are better than decorating every function individually.
