+1 for Dr Chuck! Echo your sentiments exactly.

Had I taken this course when I was 18, I surely would have gone for a CS degree.

People have been saying this for years. However, none of the other players have built a compelling product with widespread appeal or adoption. The E-Tron? iPace? Taycan? All have been more or less dead on arrival from an adoption and sales standpoint.

Honda announced recently that they will be focusing on hybrid technology, not full electric. Toyota is backing their Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology. GM has the Bolt, a single full-electric offering. The Model 3 doesn't really have any meaningful competition at the moment IMO. Tesla has forced the industry to change and from where I'm standing no competing product has managed to holistically match the value proposition Tesla brings.

"As it turns out, through October 2019, Audi has sold about 17,500 e-Trons globally, compared to about 21,600 for the Tesla."[1]

"With clients able to register their interest, Porsche has collected almost as many pre-orders as they plan to produce electric vehicles. The Handelsblatt quotes Porsches HR Director Andreas Haffner on the status of registrations to order the manufacturer’s first electric model. Says Haffner: 'There are 30,000 orders for the Taycan.'"[2]

Right, clearly all DOA. The model 3 has no competition because the major auto manufacturers are moving away from the sedan platform entirely to SUVs and trucks. It fills a small market niche, but one that's quickly slowing as a percentage of total vehicle sales.

> However, none of the other players have built a compelling product with widespread appeal or adoption

Neither has Tesla if we're honest.

These are expensive luxury cars. They're never going to see high volume.

Jaguar sells about 76,000 cars a year in total across all of their models. Porsche expects to sell about 20,000 Taycans a year. Both the Audi e-tron and the Jaguar I-Pace outsell the Model X and the Model S in Europe:

If you want volume then have a look at Volkswagen ID.3 sales at the end of this year in Europe. It may well end up being the top selling EV in Europe even though it'll only be on sale for half the year at best.

I recently bought a camera lens from Amazon. It was listed as new, but when I received it, the lens caps for both the front and back were missing, the packaging was dirty, and so was the lens. It was obviously not new.

When I started speaking with customer support, I told them that the manufacturer had listed the lens caps as included accessories on the item's listing. The support agent told me that I didn't buy it from the manufacturer, I bought it from Amazon, so there was no guarantee for everything being included. They then went further and advised me that they personally only buy items like this from a retail store for this reason. I was flabbergasted that Amazon's own support team was telling me not to shop on Amazon.

This was one of the worst experiences I had ever had on Amazon, I returned the item and purchased it for a premium from B&H.

On top of that, Oracle still makes hardware. I don't think they can be blamed for stagnating interest in that area.

After taxes 115k is more like 5-6k a month, depending on how much you’re putting into retirement accounts, healthcare, etc.

Parent was already talking about net, after taxes.

I just got a 2018 BMW 2 series and it's the best system I've personally used outside of a Tesla. It has a mobile connection so it can find POIs very quickly. It's surprised me many times when I've asked it to navigate somewhere.

I'm sure the recent crop of Audis and Mercedes are the same. The German brands seem to be finally getting on the voice assistant train with a "Hey Mercedes" or "Hey BMW" cue.

Your BMW is new, I have an old one, and the sofware updates made it worse actually. Tesla is making sure that the new processors are backward compatible (for example the new, v2.5 generation autopilot hardware fits in the v2.0 hardware, and doesn't increase the power usage substantially).

In return I'm a bit scared of buying a Tesla because I live in Europe and read quite bad stories about the service wait time here.

Sun had the hardware that Larry wanted for his engineered systems. Prior to that there was an announced partnership with HP for that.

The Google lawsuit came later. Remember the purchase was in 2009, when Android was still in its early days in terms of adoption and market share.

Thanks, so it was more of a "oh, look at what we have here" type of thing it sounds like.

Came here to post this. Now I know where they got their inspiration! Though, ironically enough, I always got the vibe that that city from the first game was more like Singapore.

The Volt has something called "maintenance mode", which starts the engine about every 4-6 weeks, and does a process a little more involved every few months or so to burn gas that would go bad.
