If it’s remote, sometimes they’ll pay someone else to do the work and pocket the difference. And/or the job may just be a ruse to get credentials in the org because it’s an espionage target or to use as a launch point to go after an espionage target.

That’s true of 70-80% of tubular locks, but there are higher quality tubular locks that are designed with the standard tubular impressioning tool in mind, and on which it does not work.

They are. Most locksmiths hate graphite. The two lubes most used and recommended by locksmiths are Houdini and Tri-Flow. The latter is available in some hardware stores (it’s in the lube section of my local ACE Hardware), and while you can special order Houdini online, you can also buy it locally under its alternate name Super Slick Slick Stuff. I’ve seen it in my local Lowes, not sure if Home Depot also has it now.

Choose to go somewhere else that doesn’t do that to you; if you vote with your feet, they will get the message

This is what I've done. There are a few restaurants that I've come across that have mandatory tipping, and I'll never go back. I don't think it's insensitive to believe that it is not the customers responsibility to pay for the employees.

Raise the prices, get rid of tipping, it will make everyone happier.

This is the way. I recently got an oil change, and at the end I was prompted to tip with the default 20%. I changed it to zero - the person doing the work is certainly being paid market rates and well above minimum wage (even now, why do I feel the need to explain myself?!) and I’ll never go back to this chain.

The guys likely to spit in the food are the same people who don't care the slightest bit about the business and are probably going to end up fired after a couple of months for not showing up getting in a fight with a coworker or manager. And this isn't me trying to bad mouth service industry folks, it's just that people who are working in fast food are usually are not in that situation because they're making life decisions that lead to financial success (again generally not specifically). The point being the person spitting in your food isn't going to care if you come back.

It’s difficult to find a place that doesn’t do that these days.

The answer is to not go anywhere. Eat at home.

I thought I learned at one point that “kaka” (poop) was one of the earliest proto-Indo-European words [0] and think it is present in many languages but “all” is a pretty high bar.

Fun thing I only recently realized, that's what the Gremlins are calling Gizmo in the movies (and just shouting in general in the recent cartoon). Apparently that word is cross-species.

In Norwegian this word is not recognized. Norwegians hear it as «kake» (kAh-keh), cake.

Nobody wants to hit pedestrians, pets, bicyclists, or other road users.

But we don't drive like that

Agreed.

About 30 minutes ago I watched a car make a left turn at a pedestrian in a high-vis vest.

Either nobody is paying attention, not looking around enough, or the safety features (that A pillar) blocks too much of the view for our own good.

Just like a monopoly, they long ago stopped tweaking the product to improve your experience, and instead for years now all the product changes have been to improve theirs. As another example, I’ve noticed they’ve started hiding when videos were published too

This is the key point and should be comment #1.

When a company has “won”, it no longer makes product decisions to please users, it makes product decisions to suit itself.

I still think I have my Perl DeCSS t-shirt somewhere in my mother’s basement :D

I still remember a lot of 09 F9 11 02 after all this time.

This and FCKGW-... are permanently burned into my brain decades later.

My first thought was “oh sh*t, they finally added this to the list of time-wasting social media blocked sites” :( It was only when I saw it also didn’t work on my phone, that I realized HN itself was actually down
