The only problem with learning new stuff is that learning != having experience.
E.g., she can learn react, make a to-do app, but it's not a real commercial experience, and in most cases it won't be counted.
However, I agree with you.
The problem is that she needs money right now, due to mortgage and stuff, I would maybe learn something additional like a backend framework, so that she can say "I'm good at Vue, have experience, but I also know next.js, made my own pet project with it"
I think it is the fact that you bring "knowledge of" to the table more so than having a portfolio with it. As far as Craigslist, it is the easiest place to either list services or find companies looking for a freelancer. She could also go to local businesses and see if they need a website.
As much as she wants to remain in development, there is also the alternative route... doing something else, especially if things are due right now.
It's not a long amount of time considering the rewards. Many of the second or third round "interviews" were actually mini projects that took weeks of effort, as well.
I play in incognito mode, and I barely watch my rating. I mean, I know that "I'm somewhere in 1750" or "1850", but I'm not trying to get high rating.
I just play when I eat and I don't care THAT much.
The thing is that if I'm in a bad mood (I take antidepressants so to speak), then I don't focus, don't care much, blunt a lot and so on.
But there are periods when I'm in good mood (hopefully I don't have bipolar disorder), and I'm still eating and playing in the same manner except that I focus more and tell myself that I'll destroy the opponent
